Mustazeed

Across 28 races in total, Mustazeed has won 5 times and finished in the places on another 10 occasions — that works out at roughly 1 in every 5 or 6 races resulting in a win. For context, his main hunting ground has been Class 2 races, which sit near the top of the British racing pyramid. At that level he has won twice from 13 attempts, around 1 in every 6 or 7. These are hard races to win, and the fact that he keeps turning up and competing — rather than being dropped into easier company — says something about where he belongs.

Eustace has spoken candidly about Mustazeed's personality. Getting the work into him is not always straightforward — he can be a character at home — which is why the team sent him to Doncaster the week before his most recent Newbury win, simply to keep him sharp. That kind of management, understanding what a horse needs rather than just following routine, is often what separates a trainer who gets the best out of a difficult horse from one who doesn't. Eustace's yard has sent out 24 winners this season, so there is clearly plenty going right.

The most recent win, at Newbury on 20 September 2025, was not straightforward either. Eustace noted afterwards that Mustazeed had to battle past his main rival, and that nobody watching could question his resolve. That detail matters — a horse who wins a hard race by digging in is often more reliable than one who coasts home on a good day. His recent form outside Newbury has been less eye-catching, with finishes of 11th, 10th, and 8th, but he raced just one day ago and remains very much in action. He is a horse who clearly saves his best for the place he knows best.
