Morbeh

The distance question seems to have been answered emphatically. Over a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs, Morbeh has won 2 of 3 races — a 67% win rate at that trip, which is remarkable by any standard. That kind of dominance over a specific distance suggests the horse has found its natural home, where it has the room to travel and the stamina to see things out. Trainers and teams spend months trying to work out what suits a horse; those numbers suggest they've cracked it with Morbeh.

The trainer behind all this is Roger Varian, one of the most respected names in British racing. Based in Newmarket — essentially the headquarters of the sport in this country — Varian's yard has already sent out 87 winners this season alone. That is a serious operation, and it means Morbeh is being prepared by people who know exactly how to place a horse to win races. Getting a horse to the right track, at the right distance, in the right conditions is a skill in itself, and Varian has demonstrated it here.

The two wins tell a story of a horse improving through the year. The first came at Lingfield Park in January 2026, getting things off the mark on an all-weather track — useful for building confidence over winter. The second, and most recent, came at Windsor just this week, on 18 May 2026, suggesting Morbeh has arrived in form just as the summer season gets going. A horse that wins in January and then comes back to win again in May, with the form figures tracking upward in between, is a horse heading in the right direction. With the best of the summer still ahead and a distance that clearly suits, there is every reason to think Morbeh has more to offer yet.
