Mishy's Star

The recent form makes for tough reading. Over the last six races, the best result was a third place, but the two most recent outings produced finishes of 11th and 14th — well adrift of the leaders. Jockey Josephine Gordon has been in the saddle for six of those runs and is still waiting for a first win together, which suggests this is a combination still trying to find its moment rather than one that has simply had bad luck.

Mishy's Star competes at Class 6, which is the entry level of British racing — the races designed for horses still hunting their first win or finding their feet. Going winless from 7 races at that level is a sign that even at the lowest rung, this horse hasn't yet been able to make its mark. Trainer Keiran Burke, based in Whitcombe, Dorset, has sent out 13 winners this season, so the yard clearly knows how to get horses winning. The question is whether Mishy's Star can become one of them.

The horse is still active and only four years old, which means time isn't entirely against it. But with no wins from 12 races and a recent run of results heading in the wrong direction, it will take something to change — whether that's a tweak in tactics, a different type of race, or simply a good day — before this one starts troubling the judge.
