That matters, because horses from busy, winning yards tend to be placed and managed well, and Lacey clearly knows what he is doing.

The longer the trip, the better this horse seems to go. Over two miles or more, the record reads one win from four races — that is a 25% win rate at those distances, which is a genuinely strong return. Compare that to its record in shorter company and the contrast is stark. At Class 4 level — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, not the glamour events but competitive enough — it has run four times and won none. That might sound disappointing, but paired with those four career places, it paints the picture of a horse that needs everything to fall right: the right distance, the right track, the right day.

Recent form is mixed, with finishes of 8th, 1st, 6th, 12th, 12th, and 6th reading from most recent backwards. Those back-to-back 12ths earlier in the sequence look rough, but the Taunton win sandwiched between some modest efforts is the kind of form pattern that keeps the yard — the trainer, at least — hopeful. It raced just one day ago, so it is very much an active, busy horse right now.

Taunton seems to suit. It is where the win came, and sometimes horses just take to a track the way a golfer finds a course that suits their eye. If Miracles Do Happen heads back there over a stiff distance, the name might stop feeling like a joke and start feeling like a statement.
