That level is Class 4, which sits in the middle of the British racing ladder — competitive without being elite. And here is where the numbers get genuinely interesting: at Class 4, Master Richard has won 4 of his 17 races at that grade, a win rate of 24%, or almost 1 in 4. Put simply, step him up in class and he tends to struggle; pitch him in at the right level and he becomes a proper threat. Trainers and owners love a horse like this because he is predictable in the best possible way.

He got his career off the ground at Kempton Park back in November 2021, and his most recent win came at Thirsk in September 2025 — eight months ago now. Thirsk is a neat, galloping track in North Yorkshire, not far from where he is trained by Stephen Hanlon at Constable Burton. It is always worth noting when a horse wins close to home; familiar surroundings and a short journey can make a real difference. Hanlon's yard has sent out 3 winners already this season, so there is form in the yard to build on.

His regular partner in the saddle is Rowan Scott, who has ridden him in 6 races and won once together — that is 1 in 6, or 17%, which is slightly better than Master Richard's overall average. Not a bad combination. His recent form reads 3-2-3-10-1-4, which means after a flat spell he bounced back with a win and has been competitive either side of it. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much in active training and being aimed at races right now.

At seven, he is not getting any younger, but horses at this level often find their groove and keep performing well into their later years. Master Richard looks every inch the type.
