He competes at Class 5, which is the entry-level tier of British racing — the kind of race where the aim is simply to get horses competing and finding their feet. Even at that level, he hasn't been able to find the front. That's not necessarily a disaster for a three-year-old who is still learning the game, but it does mean there's a fair bit of improvement needed before he starts collecting prize money.

What makes this run particularly worth watching is the five-month break since he last raced. That's a significant absence, and horses can come back from a long spell either transformed or rusty — there's genuinely no way to know until the gates open. His trainer, Dominic Ffrench Davis, is based at the well-known racing hub of Lambourn and has sent out 10 winners this season, so there's clearly ability in the yard to get horses ready. Whether Man From Havana is one of those horses primed for a step forward remains to be seen, but if the team has used the break to address whatever was holding him back, this return could look very different from what's come before.
