Macanudo

The wins tell the real story. His first came at Chelmsford back in February 2024, and then nothing for nearly two and a half years until last Sunday at Wolverhampton. That kind of gap between victories is the mark of a horse who struggles to deliver at the level he is entered to race, and the numbers bear it out. At Class 4 races — the type most of his runs come in — he has won none from 10 starts. But drop him to easier company and something clicks. On normal ground conditions, he has won 2 of his 9 races, a win rate of roughly 1 in 4, which is genuinely respectable and suggests there are specific circumstances under which he can be competitive.

His recent form is uneven. In his last six races he has managed one win, one third place, and a fourth, but also a couple of seventh-place finishes that suggest inconsistency. Most of those runs have come in the hands of jockey Ryan Kavanagh, with whom he has never won — 0 wins from 9 races together. Ian Williams trains him from his yard in Worcestershire, which has been a prolific operation this season with 96 winners to its name. For Macanudo, the takeaway is simple: he is best served on normal ground, in smaller races, and he has at least shown this week that he can still find the winning post. Whether he can do it again is another question entirely.
