Let's Go Hugo

His trainer Ollie Pears, based at Norton in North Yorkshire, has had 11 winners out of his yard this season alone, and Let's Go Hugo is very much part of that operation's bread and butter. Tom Kiely-Marshall has partnered the horse most often, riding him in 11 races and winning once together — a working relationship built on familiarity rather than fireworks.

What genuinely sets Let's Go Hugo apart is his relationship with Newcastle racecourse. He has won 2 of his 9 races there, which works out at just over 1 in every 4 — a win rate more than double what he manages anywhere else. That is not a coincidence. Some horses simply suit a particular track, whether it is the shape of the bends, the camber of the ground, or something harder to pin down. Newcastle brings out the best in him, and his most recent win came there as recently as September 2025, just eight months ago. He is not a horse whose best days are behind him.

He is also at his most dangerous on normal ground — not too wet, not too firm — where he has won 3 of his 21 races on that surface, or roughly 1 in 7. Most of his racing comes at Class 6, which is the entry-level tier of British flat racing, and with 29 races at that level and 2 wins, it is a competitive environment where margins are tight and winning is never a formality.

The last six races have produced no wins — finishes of 10th, 7th, 8th, 4th, 8th, and 4th — but he raced just yesterday, which suggests his team see plenty of life in him yet. Watch for him when Newcastle comes around again.
