Lednikov

Southwell's all-weather surface clearly suits Lednikov down to the ground. His last win came there in March 2026, and while his most recent runs have been modest — finishing ninth, then an absence, then a win, and three mid-pack finishes since — he is currently active, having raced just yesterday. That recent form of 5-6-7 after the March win suggests he may be waiting for the right conditions to click again, but given his record at Southwell, it would be unwise to write him off next time he heads back there.

He tends to be at his sharpest over a mile and three or four furlongs, winning 2 from 9 races at that distance — a 22% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 4 runs. That's noticeably better than his overall figures and suggests the extra stamina test brings out the best in him. Most of his racing comes at Class 6, the entry level of British racing, and he has won 6 of his 35 races at that level, around 1 in every 6 attempts. It's a modest arena, but Lednikov has made it his own, particularly at Southwell.

Jockey Elle-May Croot has become his regular partner, riding him 27 times and winning 4 of those races together — again, roughly 1 in every 7. That kind of long-running partnership matters: a jockey who knows a horse's quirks and preferences can make a real difference at the crucial moment. The pair are handled by trainer Ivan Furtado, based in Wiseton in South Yorkshire, whose yard has been in fine form this season with 34 winners already sent out. Furtado clearly knows how to place Lednikov in the right races, and with that Southwell record sitting there like a calling card, the horse is far from finished.
