Lingfield's all-weather track, with its distinctive Polytrack surface and tight turning course, suits certain horses more than others — and on that day, at least, Late Claim found its sweet spot. The problem is that was five months ago, and the six runs since have produced finishes of 2nd, 2nd, 6th, 10th, 8th, and 6th — a sequence that suggests a horse hunting for that same feeling without quite finding it again.

What makes the recent form interesting is those back-to-back runner-up finishes buried within it.
