The headline number is decent: 3 wins and 8 places from 13 races, a win rate of roughly 1 in 4 (23%), which for a three-year-old still finding her way through her first full season is perfectly respectable. Her first win came at Brighton in April 2025, and she has added two more since. But the really striking result on her record is a Class 2 win at Nottingham in October — one of the better races in Britain at that level, and the kind of occasion that separates horses with a ceiling from those without one. On that day, she looked like something special.

The puzzle is what happens the rest of the time. In six attempts at Class 4 — the bread-and-butter level where she would be expected to be competitive — she has not won once. Zero from six. That is a strange inversion: better in the bigger races, quieter when things should be easier. It might be that she is the sort of horse who responds to a genuine test and needs quality opposition to bring out her best. It might be that the Class 4 fields she has faced have simply been awkward matchups. Either way, it is the kind of quirk that makes her worth watching rather than writing off.

Her most regular partner in the saddle is Charles Bishop, who has ridden her seven times and won twice — a win rate of 29%, or just under 1 in 3, which is a solid return and suggests the partnership works. Eve Johnson Houghton trains her from Blewbury in Oxfordshire, a yard that has been in excellent form this season with 42 winners on the board. That is a team hitting their stride, and Kesta has been part of it. She raced just yesterday, so she is clearly fit and active, and with her recent run of 1-3-3-3 suggesting she is running well without always winning, the next win may not be far away — particularly if the yard find her another big occasion to rise to.
