The level Katalyst competes at is worth understanding. Class 5 is toward the lower end of the British racing ladder, designed for horses that haven't been able to win at higher grades. Even there, Katalyst has drawn a blank in all five attempts at that level. That's not necessarily a crisis — some horses take time, and trainers will often keep running a young horse through its three-year-old season simply to build experience — but it does mean the team at Lambourn will be looking hard at what needs to change.
That team is William Muir and Chris Grassick, a training partnership based in Lambourn, Berkshire, one of Britain's most famous racing villages. With 21 winners on the board already this season, the yard clearly knows how to get horses to win. The fact that they're persisting with Katalyst suggests they believe there's something there worth unlocking — though at some point, patience has to be rewarded with results. The challenge now is finding the right race, the right conditions, or simply the right day for this horse to show what it can do.
