Jubilant

The most interesting thread running through Jubilant's career is what happens when it arrives at Huntingdon. Two wins from just 3 races at the track is the kind of record that makes trainers start pencilling in entries — some horses simply click with a particular course, whether it's the shape of the bends, the layout of the run-in, or something harder to explain. Jubilant is clearly one of them. Its first career win came there in April 2024, and James Owen, who trains the horse from his Newmarket yard in Suffolk, was clear after that race that the trip and the conditions suited perfectly. He'd had to withdraw Jubilant twice before that run because the ground was too wet and soft — once the track dried out to something more normal, the horse won as though it had been saving itself for exactly that moment.

Owen is no small operation. His yard has sent out 204 winners this season alone, which puts him firmly among the more productive trainers in the country. He has spoken about Jubilant being at its best on faster, drier ground in the spring — and the horse's record backs that up. Most of its racing has come at Class 4 level, which is mid-tier racing in Britain, and it has won 3 of its 12 races at that grade, a 25% win rate that is genuinely competitive at that level.

The recent form is a little patchy — a win at Plumpton in December 2025 was followed by a couple of sixth-place finishes, and the horse has had a 38-day break since its last run. That short freshen-up might be exactly what it needed. Jubilant isn't a headline act, but with better ground likely on the way and a course record at Huntingdon that any trainer would be happy to exploit, there could be another good day coming.
