That is a long wait. Most horses at this level would have found a weak enough race to win by now, and the fact that she hasn't raises genuine questions about whether the right opportunity has simply not come along yet, or whether winning is just beyond her.

Her regular partner Charlie Deutsch has ridden her five times without a win between them, though Deutsch is a capable jockey who has partnered plenty of winners for Williams over the years. The partnership hasn't clicked yet, but five rides together without a result is not unusual for a horse that hasn't won at all. What is slightly encouraging is that she does place — she is not finishing last and disappearing — she just cannot get over the line first.

She raced just yesterday, which means she is fit and active rather than a horse being nursed back from a long absence. Her recent form shows a third-place finish at either end of her last six recorded runs, with little to report in between. She competes mainly at Class 4, which is a mid-tier level of racing — not the bottom rung, but not the top either. Going winless at that level across four attempts suggests she may need to drop into easier company, or that conditions or a track simply haven't suited her yet. At eight, time is not unlimited — but stranger things have happened, and Venetia Williams is not in the habit of running horses without a plan.
