The career numbers tell a story of a horse that punches above its weight when it matters. Four wins and 12 places from 26 races — winning roughly 1 in every 6.5 outings — is a decent return, but the quality of those wins stands out more than the quantity. Inappropriate has won two Class 2 races, which sit among the top races in Britain. The first came at Newcastle in November 2024, the second at Musselburgh in March 2025. Those are proper performances against serious competition, and they suggest a horse that genuinely rises to a big occasion rather than wilting under pressure.

What makes those wins even more interesting is where they did not come from. In seven attempts at the routine Class 4 level — the kind of race you might expect a horse to find easier — Inappropriate has never once got its nose in front. Not once from seven tries. It sounds strange, but it is actually a recognisable type: a horse that needs a big stage to produce its best, and perhaps switches off when the competition feels less intense. Many good horses are like that. The trick is finding the right race.

That is a 38% win rate — a remarkable number that any trainer would be delighted with. Jedd O'Keeffe, who trains the horse from his yard in Coverham, North Yorkshire, clearly knows his business: his team has sent out 18 winners already this season. Jockey Conor O'Farrell has the partnership dialled in too, winning 2 of his 8 rides on the horse — 1 in every 4 — which is an excellent return.

The shadow over all of this is time. Inappropriate has not won since that Musselburgh success 14 months ago, and the last six runs read 6-2-5-4-2-6: plenty of placed efforts but no victory. The form says the horse is still competitive. The ground record says wait for the right conditions. And the Class 2 wins say, when everything lines up, do not underestimate it.
