Hibernate

The first win came at Chepstow in July 2025, and that breakthrough clearly unlocked something. Hibernate has since added to that tally, most recently winning at Bath just this week — a result that confirms this is not a fluke. Two wins from the last six races is a meaningful uptick in form for any horse, but especially one that had spent much of its career finishing without troubling the judge.

Hibernate competes at Class 6, which is the entry-level tier of British racing — the bread-and-butter end of the sport where horses are finding their feet or settling into a consistent groove. Winning 1 race from 6 at that level (about 1 in 6) is not unusual, but the recent acceleration in results suggests Hibernate may be hitting a sweet spot of fitness and confidence at exactly the right moment.

Behind the scenes, the horse is trained by Ed Dunlop at his yard in Newmarket, one of the heartlands of British flat racing. Dunlop's operation has been in good nick this season, sending out 36 winners — a sign of a stable running at healthy momentum. When a trainer is in that kind of form, horses around them tend to benefit from sharp preparation and confident handling, and Hibernate looks like one of the yard's current success stories. With another run only yesterday, this is clearly a horse being kept busy while the good times last.
