Her recent form makes for mixed reading. A second place earlier in the sequence hinted that a win might be coming, but her last three runs have produced finishes of eighth, tenth, and ninth — well off the pace. Whether that reflects the competition she has been facing, the conditions on those particular days, or something the team at Newmarket are still trying to work out, it is clear she is going through a difficult patch. She raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping her busy and looking for answers.
Hazy Cosmic Jane competes at Class 5 level, which is the entry level of British flat racing — races designed for horses who haven't shown enough to step up yet. She has run four times at that level without winning any of them. Trained by D Donovan out of Newmarket, one of the sport's most famous training bases, the yard has sent out three winners this season, so there is form in the stable. The hope will be that she can add to that tally before long, but at this stage she remains one of those horses who keeps showing up without quite delivering the result everyone is waiting for.
