The recent form figures of 11-3-4-16-4 tell a mixed story. That third-place finish stands out as the highlight, but either side of it the performances have been patchy, including a 16th-place finish that suggests at least one race went badly wrong. Two fourth-place finishes round out the record — close enough to be frustrating, not close enough to count for much. Flash Kozo raced just yesterday, so it is very much a horse in the middle of its story rather than at the end of one.
What does offer some encouragement is the training operation behind it. Harry Eustace, based in Newmarket — the historic heartland of British racing — has sent out 24 winners already this season, which suggests a yard in decent form that knows how to get a horse ready to perform. Newmarket trainers tend to have access to excellent facilities and strong competition in their daily work, so horses that come from there are usually well-prepared. If Flash Kozo is going to find a win, it is in capable hands.
For now, though, this is a horse still searching for a breakthrough. At three years old there is time, but the pressure to deliver something tangible will only grow as the season moves on.
