Filly's Last Lady

Her last six runs read 5-7-7-9-9-1, and that sequence rewards a second look. Working backwards from the most recent race, she won at Chepstow on 2 July 2025 — but before that, she had finished ninth twice and seventh twice in succession. Four poor efforts bookended by wins is not the profile of a horse finding her feet; it is the profile of a horse who does things on her own terms. When she is on, she is on. When she is not, she really is not. That Chepstow win, coming off the back of four deeply uninspiring runs, suggests she might just need everything to line up perfectly before she fires.

Her very first win came at Bath in June 2025, so both victories have arrived within a tight window, and she has raced just one day ago, meaning she is very much an active participant in the current season. She is trained by Gary Harrison, whose yard is based in Lesmahagow in Lanarkshire — a long way from the southern tracks where Filly's Last Lady does her racing. That kind of distance suggests a trainer who picks his spots carefully, and perhaps that patience is part of what eventually coaxed a win out of her at Bath last summer.

One number that stands out less favourably is her record in Class 5 races, which are the more accessible end of the racing ladder. She has run four times at that level and won none of them — 0 from 4. Both of her wins have come elsewhere, which implies she may actually perform better when the standard around her is a little sharper, or at least different. Harrison's yard has sent out just one winner this season in total, so Filly's Last Lady is carrying much of the hopes of a small, modestly resourced operation. Whether she can string a run of form together remains the open question — but she has already proven twice that she knows how to win.
