Emerald Harmony

The recent form makes for slightly frustrating reading if you are a fan. Looking at the last six races, the pattern reads 10-3-7-2-3-2 — that is two runner-up finishes, a third, and then a tenth in the most recent outing. The good news is that Emerald Harmony raced just yesterday, so this is very much a horse in active work, being trained and tested regularly by Paul Midgley's yard in Westow, North Yorkshire. Midgley's operation is in fine form this season, having sent out 39 winners, which tells you Emerald Harmony is in capable hands.

The partnership with jockey Ben Coen is worth paying attention to. Together they have won 2 of their 11 races — roughly 1 in every 5 — which is a meaningfully better record than the horse's overall career average. That kind of chemistry between horse and rider can make a real difference, and when Coen is in the saddle, Emerald Harmony gives a noticeably better account of itself.

Both career wins came at Irish tracks — Tipperary in August 2024, and Bellewstown in April 2025 — which is an interesting detail. Bellewstown, in particular, is a small, tight track where familiarity and a relaxed rhythm can count for a lot, and Emerald Harmony clearly found something to like there. That Bellewstown win came over 14 months ago now, so the search for a third career victory is well underway.

What makes Emerald Harmony genuinely watchable is that it is rarely out of the picture. A horse that places in nearly half its races is one that competes honestly and consistently. The question is simply whether a third win is coming — and with Coen booked and Midgley's yard in strong form, the ingredients are there.
