Those two wins do tell a story, though. The first came at Southwell in December 2023, and the most recent at Wolverhampton in April 2025 — both all-weather tracks, which hints at where Educate is most comfortable. The distance sweet spot appears to be a mile and a bit, specifically 1m1f to 1m2f, where it has won 1 from 5 races, a 20% win rate that is notably better than anything else on its record. That is the version of this horse worth watching for.

Educate is trained by Micky Hammond at his yard in Middleham, North Yorkshire, one of the most established training bases in the north of England. Hammond's team has sent out 25 winners this season, so the operation is clearly functioning well — Educate just hasn't been the horse carrying those results. Regular jockey Aiden Brookes has partnered the horse five times without a win, though that is as much a reflection of the horse's overall record as anything else. Most of Educate's racing has come at Class 6 level, the lowest rung of the ladder, where it has won just 1 from 10 races at a 10% win rate — meaning even at the easiest level it competes at, victories have been hard to come by.

Recent form reads 6-5-6-6-4 in its last five completed runs, which is modest without being catastrophic. The horse raced just yesterday and remains active, so the yard are clearly not giving up. If the right conditions align — an all-weather track, a mile to a mile and a quarter, and a low-grade field — Educate has shown it can get the job done. It just does not do it very often.
