Crimson Road

Trained by John and Rhys Flint out of Kenfig Hill in Bridgend — a small yard that has still managed to send out 7 winners this season — Crimson Road has been trying to recapture the form that brought it a win at Lingfield in May 2024 and then another at Newbury in August of the same year. That Newbury success is now 21 months in the past, and the recent run of results makes for uncomfortable reading: in its last six races the horse has not finished higher than fourth, with a ninth and an eighth mixed in. It raced just yesterday, so the team clearly believe there is still something to find.

Overall, the career record reads 2 wins and 6 placed finishes from 22 races — a win rate of roughly 1 in every 11. That is modest, but it disguises something more interesting underneath. At the right distance and on fast ground, the number jumps to 2 wins from 7 races at a mile and three or four furlongs — nearly 1 in 3. This is a horse with a specific set of requirements, not a straightforward one. When those requirements are met it becomes a different animal entirely. At Class 4 — the level it almost always competes at — the record is 2 wins from 15 races, or roughly 1 in 8, which is about what you would expect for this tier.

The question for the Flint yard is whether the dry conditions and the right trip will come together again before the season moves on. Crimson Road is five years old, still active, and clearly in regular work. The ingredients for another win exist — they just need to be in the same place at the same time.
