That one win did come, though, and it came at Newcastle on 1 August 2025 — a full nine months ago now. At the shorter distances, between five and six-and-a-half furlongs, Colour Code actually looks a little more competitive: 1 win from 10 races at those trips is a 10% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 10, which is a more respectable picture. The short-distance speed is clearly where whatever ability this horse has tends to show up.

Colour Code runs mainly in Class 6 races, which are the bread-and-butter, entry-level contests on the British racing calendar — as far from the glamour races as it gets. Even there, the record reads 1 win from 10 races (10%), so it isn't dominating that level either. The recent run of form — a win, then a fourth, then a thirteenth, a sixth, and two blanks before that — suggests a horse running with some inconsistency, one that showed up brilliantly on its best day but has been hard to pin down since.

Trained by Linda Perratt, based in East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, Colour Code is part of a yard that has sent out 19 winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get horses winning. Perratt will be hoping to find the right spot to get Colour Code back to something like that August form. With the horse having raced just one day ago, the team is clearly keeping it busy and looking for opportunities — sometimes that persistence is exactly what it takes to find the right race at the right moment.
