The most striking number in Ciotog's record is the one that almost defies belief: two wins from just three races on wet or muddy ground. That is a 67% win rate, winning two in every three attempts when the heavens have opened. On normal conditions the figure drops to around one in six, which is still respectable, but the transformation on a soft surface is remarkable. Many horses tolerate wet ground; Ciotog genuinely thrives on it.

The other number that stands out is Bath. Four wins from fourteen races at that particular track make it a genuine course specialist — and that matters. Some horses simply click with certain venues, whether it is the shape of the track, the camber of the bends, or something else entirely that nobody has fully explained. Four wins from fourteen tries (just under one in every three and a half races) is the kind of record that makes you look twice at Bath's racecard whenever Ciotog is declared.

The stable is a family affair in the most literal sense. Ciotog is trained by Mark Loughnane at Rock Farm in Worcestershire — a yard that has sent out 25 winners this season alone — and most often ridden by Billy Loughnane, who has partnered the horse in 19 of its 60 races. That combination has produced 2 wins together, and there is clearly a level of familiarity that a team builds up over that many shared appearances.

The honest part of the picture is that Ciotog has not won in six races and last tasted victory at Wolverhampton in January 2025, now sixteen months ago. The recent form figures — finishing fourth, fifth, fifth, sixth, fifth, and sixth — suggest a horse that is competing without quite finding a finishing gear. Still active, still turning up, and with wet ground or a trip to Bath still capable of changing the story entirely.
