Buraback

Most of his racing has come in Class 6 company — the entry level of British racing — where he has won 7 from 33 races, a win rate of around 1 in 5. That is a genuinely solid return at that grade and tells you he is well placed when the yard pitch him at the right level. His trainer Derek Shaw, based in Sproxton, Leicestershire, has sent out 6 winners already this season, and Buraback has been part of that operation for a couple of years now. Shaw took him on after a spell with another yard and, early on, spoke about sorting out some small physical issues before putting him on turf. That change in approach looks to have paid off over time.

His most interesting relationship is with Lingfield Park, the all-weather track in Surrey where his career first got going back in December 2021. He has won 2 from 8 races there, which might not sound dramatic, but Lingfield has a famously tricky bend that catches plenty of horses out. Shaw himself has mentioned that Buraback had problems with that bend in the past, and that getting the tactics right — keeping him wide to find a clear run up the straight — made a real difference. When it clicks at Lingfield, it really clicks.

His most consistent partnership is with jockey Lewis Edmunds, who has ridden him to 5 wins from 23 races together — that is just over 1 in 5, and well above the horse's overall average. That kind of familiarity between horse and rider matters more than people realise.

The last win came at Chelmsford in April 2025, and his past six races have produced two second-place finishes alongside a few quieter efforts — so the winning thread has gone quiet for now. But Buraback raced just 17 days ago, is clearly still in training, and has shown before that he can find his way back into the winner's enclosure when conditions and tactics align. At seven, he is not done yet.
