That kind of honesty from a trainer is telling: it means they've done the detective work, and it's paid off.

Brinton typically competes at Class 6, which is the entry level of British racing, and she's won 3 of her 23 races at that level (13%). That's where she belongs, and Portman has said as much — she's probably found her ceiling, and there's no shame in that. Most racehorses never win at all; Brinton has won four times and earned her place in a consistent programme. Her most regular jockey is Rob Hornby, who has ridden her to 2 wins from their 11 races together — a win rate of 18%, or roughly 1 in every 5 rides, which is meaningfully better than her overall average and suggests there's a strong working partnership there.

The recent form makes for genuinely interesting reading. Her last six races read 11-1-2-5-7-2, most recent first — which means she won last week at Bath, finished second just before that, and posted another runner-up spot earlier in the sequence. She's clearly in form right now, having raced as recently as yesterday. Her first career win came at Southwell back in February 2025, and she followed that up with the Bath win on 29 April 2026. Portman's plan is to give her a short break before bringing her back for a winter campaign on the all-weather tracks — the artificial surfaces that keep racing going through the colder months. Given how she's been going lately, that's something worth keeping an eye on.
