The most striking thing about Bowood is the partnership with jockey Elle-May Croot. In 19 races together, they've won 5 times — that's a win rate of 26%, or roughly 1 in every 4. To put that in perspective, Bowood's overall win rate is less than half that figure. Something clearly clicks when Croot is in the saddle, and that's exactly the kind of detail that matters when you're watching a race unfold. Trainer Ivan Furtado, whose yard in Wiseton, South Yorkshire has already sent out 43 winners this season, clearly knows when he's found a combination worth sticking with.

Bowood is a horse that has strong preferences. It finds its best form over a distance of around a mile and a quarter — at those trips it has won 4 times from 21 races, a rate of 19%, or nearly 1 in 5. On normal ground it wins at 22%, compared to a far patchier record on other surfaces. These aren't just numbers — they're a roadmap. When the conditions align, this horse becomes a genuine contender.

The recent form is harder to spin. Bowood hasn't won in its last 6 races, with finishing positions of 7th, 5th, 6th, 5th, 7th, and 3rd (reading back from most recent). That last win came at Newcastle in November 2025, eight months ago now. What's also worth noting is that Bowood has never won at Class 4 level — 0 wins from 18 attempts — which suggests it finds that level competitive. Its wins have come elsewhere, at a slightly easier grade, and the key to unlocking another victory may simply be dropping back to where it has consistently performed.

Raced just one day ago and still active, Bowood isn't finished yet. With the right trip, the right surface, and Croot back on board, a return to the winner's enclosure is far from unthinkable.
