Bomb Squad

The numbers tell an interesting story when you look at where Bomb Squad does his best work. He has run 17 times at Southwell and won 4 of them — that is almost 1 in every 4 visits to a track where most horses win far less often. His most recent victory came there just days ago, in April 2026, which makes him about as current as a racing profile can get. There is something about that Southwell surface that suits him perfectly, and John Mackie's team clearly know it, returning there again and again with results to show for it.

Mackie trains out of Church Broughton in Derbyshire and has sent out 15 winners already this season — a yard in good form, not a quiet operation hoping for the best. Bomb Squad is a big part of that story. He is not a horse built for the big occasions at the top of the sport, but he does not need to be. What he is built for is turning up, running honestly, and winning races — and right now, he is doing that better than at any point since he first broke through at Kempton Park back in October 2021. At eight years old, Bomb Squad is having something of a purple patch.
