Bay Breeze

The pattern is unmistakable: Bay Breeze is a wet-ground horse. On soft or muddy ground he wins roughly 1 in every 3 races (4 wins from 12), a win rate that becomes genuinely impressive when you compare it to his overall record. On faster, drier ground his chances evaporate almost entirely. Early in his career, trainer Tim Easterby, who runs a powerful yard at Great Habton in North Yorkshire, noted that firmer conditions simply did not suit him — and that observation has held true ever since. Bay Breeze is most often ridden by David Allan, and together they have found the winner's circle 5 times from 29 races, a 17% win rate that hints at what the partnership can achieve when conditions are right.

The real problem is that Bay Breeze has drifted into Class 4 company — the lower rungs of British racing — where he has managed just 1 win from 22 races. His last victory came at Carlisle on soft ground back in May 2025, now fourteen months in the past. He is no longer the horse who impressed at Ripon, but he remains useful in the right circumstances. On wet days at a track that suits him, with Allan aboard, he is worth watching. In the meantime, he soldiers on, a reliable if unspectacular part of Easterby's busy yard, waiting for the rain to fall.
