These are not dominant figures, but they point to specific conditions where Barley is genuinely competitive. At its typical level—Class 4 races—it has won just once in 16 attempts, suggesting it may be operating near the upper limit of where it can win regularly.

Tim Easterby's yard at Great Habton in North Yorkshire has been in excellent form this season, sending out 128 winners, and Barley has been a consistent presence in that operation. However, its partnership with regular rider David Allan has yielded no wins from 16 races together, which may or may not signal a need for a change. For a horse now chasing its first win in over two years, conditions will matter enormously: a dry-ground Class 4 event at the right distance could be exactly what breaks the ice again.
