Aurea Fortuna

The overall record reads two wins and six places from 19 races, which works out at roughly 1 win from every 10 attempts. On paper that sounds modest, but the shape of those wins tells a more interesting story. The first came at Galway on 3 August 2025, and just ten weeks later the horse went to Punchestown and did it again on 15 October. Back-to-back wins in a career that had produced none before them suggests the horse found something — a surface, a distance, a level of confidence — that suddenly clicked.

The recent run of form is a little harder to read. Going back through the last six races, the sequence from most recent is a fall or non-finish, then ninth, fifth, twelfth, that Punchestown win, and a third before it. The race before last, finishing twelfth, is the kind of result that raises a question mark, but horses run badly for all sorts of reasons — a rough trip, a bad day — and there is enough in the rest of the form to suggest Aurea Fortuna remains capable.

One notable detail is the partnership with jockey Daniel King, who has ridden the horse in eight of its 19 races without finding the winner's enclosure together. Both of Aurea Fortuna's wins came with different riders aboard, which is the sort of thing that gives trainers and race-watchers something to think about. It does not mean King is the wrong partner, but it is a pattern worth noticing.

Still active and having raced very recently, Aurea Fortuna is a horse in the middle of a story rather than at the end of one. A J Martin's yard is clearly operating well this season, and a horse that found a breakthrough at seven and followed it up quickly is exactly the kind that keeps people watching the racecards.
