Auld Toon Loon

What makes Auld Toon Loon worth watching is his ability to adapt to different ground conditions. On wet or muddy ground, he has won two of his four races—a 50% win rate that stands out sharply against his overall record. On fast, dry ground, he has managed two wins from eight races, still respectable at 25%. That versatility is rare and useful; it means there is always a race somewhere in the calendar that suits him. His best level appears to be Class 4 company, where he has won three times from nine races (33%)—a figure that jumps off the page when you compare it to his overall form. Step him up to Class 2, and he can still deliver: he won at Windsor in August 2025, his most recent success and his only victory at that top level.

The disappointing part is the twelve-month drought since that Windsor win. His last six races have brought nothing but a handful of placed finishes—a third last time out, but nothing like the winning form he showed a year ago. Pierre-Louis Jamin, his regular jockey, has partnered him eight times with just one win between them. Auld Toon Loon remains active and in work, but if he is to add to his four-win tally, he will need to recapture the form that made him competitive at the highest level he has reached. Right now, he is a horse in waiting for the right race and the right conditions.
