Arqoob

Trained by Lucy Wadham at Newmarket, whose yard has sent out 18 winners this season, Arqoob has been running in some fairly high-class company on the Flat. Wadham has been candid about the challenge he presents — he is consistent enough to make you keep entering him, but hard enough to win with to make victories feel genuinely earned. He has been mixing Flat races with hurdling and the plan, for now, is to keep him doing both depending on what the season offers.

His best self appears over longer distances — between a mile and six furlongs and two miles — where he has won 3 from 12 races, a rate of 1 in 4. That is substantially better than his overall figures and suggests he is a horse who needs time and space to find his rhythm. Fast, dry ground also suits him: 2 wins from just 5 races on those conditions, a 40% conversion rate that puts his form into a very different light. Most of his career has been spent on normal or worse ground, which may partly explain why wins have been hard to come by.

Sandown Park is where he has made his biggest moments count. Two wins from 8 races at the track is already a fine record, but one of those was in a Class 2 race in July 2022, which sits among the better races in Britain. Trainer Lucy Wadham noted afterwards that he loves the hill at Sandown — that finishing climb that finds out horses who are not genuinely staying — and that jockey Bryony Frost, who has ridden him to 2 wins from their 11 races together, timed her challenge perfectly that day. His most recent win came at Newmarket in August 2025, and with a second-place photo-finish at Kempton just in recent memory, his form figures of 5-4-4-2-6-1 show a horse still very much in the game. He raced just yesterday — this is a horse at the top of his season, not winding down.
