That said, context matters with two-year-olds. They are essentially teenagers being asked to compete professionally, and some simply need time and racing experience before things click. Two races is a very small sample — hardly enough to write anyone off. The question is whether improvement is coming.
What Alpaca's Bullet does have in its corner is the trainer. Adam Kirby operates out of Kirtling, near Newmarket, one of the great centres of British racing, and his yard has already sent out 6 winners this season. That is a yard in decent form, with horses running well — so the environment is right, even if results have not followed for this particular horse just yet. Kirby last had Alpaca's Bullet on the track just one day ago, suggesting the team are keeping this horse active and giving it every chance to find its feet.
For now, Alpaca's Bullet is a work in progress — a young horse with questions still to answer and a career very much at its beginning.
