Acrisius

His first win came at Brighton in September 2024, and his most recent at Chester in July 2025. Chester is one of the most unusual tracks in Britain — a tight, almost circular loop where horses that handle a sharp, turning course have a clear edge over those that prefer a straight gallop. Winning there is a specific skill, and the fact that Acrisius pulled it off suggests he has something about him beyond raw speed. He has raced there and banked the win, which is more than plenty of horses at his level can say.

At Class 5, which is the bread-and-butter level of British racing, he has been outstanding: two wins from five races, which is 40%, or nearly 1 in every 2. That is a genuinely impressive number at any level of sport. The challenge for Acrisius is that his recent form — finishing 22nd, 7th, 3rd, 1st, 13th, and 9th in his last six races — tells the story of a horse who is inconsistent once you step back and look at the full picture. He finds a big run, then fades, then finds another.

He is trained by the Easterby family yard at Sheriff Hutton in North Yorkshire — one of the sport's great training dynasties — and the operation has sent out 51 winners already this season, so there is clearly no shortage of talent and organisation behind the horses. Billy Garritty rides him most often, with the pair winning 1 from 7 together. That is a modest 14% win rate, but in the context of Acrisius's overall record, Garritty knows this horse about as well as anyone. Acrisius raced just yesterday, so he is very much in the thick of a campaign right now, and at his best level, against the right field, on a tight track, he remains a horse worth watching.
