It hasn't always looked quite this bleak. As recently as last season, Elliott was winning at a rate of roughly 1 in every 50 rides — modest, but it was something on the board. This season, that number has dropped to zero from 61 attempts, which means he is working harder than ever for results that simply aren't coming.
His most regular ally in the saddle has been trainer Tom Tate, with whom he has partnered up 15 times without finding the winner's enclosure. Fifteen rides is enough of a sample to say the combination hasn't clicked yet, though both will be hoping that changes. He has also ridden a horse called Contorno on five occasions — again, no wins to show for it, though any jockey will tell you that familiarity with a horse counts for something, even when the results don't reflect it yet.
Elliott is still only four years into a career that typically takes much longer to fully develop. Jockeys have come through longer droughts than this and gone on to build solid careers, but the next winner — whenever it arrives — will matter more than most.
