Zeus Power is trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien at Owning Hill in County Kilkenny, one of the most productive yards in Ireland this season with 154 winners already sent out. O'Brien has clearly had this horse on an upward curve, and the form has backed it up at every step. His first career win came at Thurles in December 2025, and he has not stopped improving since. Most recently, he won at Aintree just days ago in April 2026, which tells you this is a horse in the form of his life.
What makes Zeus Power's profile even more interesting is the quality of the opposition he has been beating. After a win at Navan earlier in the season, O'Brien pointed out that the runner-up — Lazare De Star — is a highly regarded horse, and that trainer Gordon Elliott had spoken publicly about his own confidence in that rival beforehand. Beating a horse that Elliott was backing publicly is exactly the kind of benchmark that gets people sitting up and paying attention. Jockey JJ Slevin, who rode that day in place of the injured Richie Deegan, was equally impressed, and made a point of ensuring the horse's regular rider got some of the credit.
O'Brien has already spoken about ambitions to run at the Turners — a top-tier festival race — which would represent a significant step up in class. Given that Zeus Power has won every time he has been asked a serious question so far, it would be brave to bet against him rising to the occasion again.
