Horses tend to find their level by this age, and zero wins from five races — not even a second or third to show for it — suggests Young And Foolish is still searching for the right opportunity, or perhaps just the right day. The dash in the recent form figures means it failed to complete one of those races, which adds another question mark to the profile.

What works in the horse's favour is the yard behind it. P J Rothwell, training out of Tinahely in County Wicklow, has sent out 35 winners already this season — that is a yard in form, with horses clearly firing. When a trainer is operating at that kind of output, they tend to know which horses have something to offer and which are there to learn. The fact that Young And Foolish raced just one day ago suggests it is fit, active, and being kept busy. Sometimes that persistence from a yard is itself a signal — trainers do not keep running horses for the fun of it.
