Yellow Star

The most recent win came at Warwick in December 2025, which means Yellow Star heads into its current campaign with something to build on. Before that, the first career win arrived at Lingfield Park in February 2024 — so this is a horse that has taken its time to find the winner's enclosure, but has now done it at two different tracks. The concern right now is that Yellow Star has gone six races without winning since that Warwick success, and the recent form string makes for uncomfortable reading.

Where the record gets genuinely eyebrow-raising is at the top level. Yellow Star has been placed in Class 1 or 2 races — the biggest races in Britain — seven times, and has not won any of them. Zero from seven. That is either a horse punching above its weight and getting found out, or one that has simply not caught the right conditions yet. According to the trainer, the answer may be the latter. Gary Moore has spoken about Yellow Star needing wet or muddy ground over hurdles to show its best, and the plan is to target those conditions through winter, with a possible step up to fences further down the line. The horse had a setback after a fall at Sandown earlier in the year, so there is some lost time to account for.

Caoilin Quinn rides Yellow Star most often — nine times together, with one win between them, a rate of roughly 1 in every 9 rides. The Moore yard itself is having a productive season with 99 winners already sent out, so the infrastructure and confidence are clearly there. The question is simply whether Yellow Star can find the wet ground and the right opportunity to add to what is, so far, a career of near-misses at the highest level and wins when the conditions finally fall right.
