The recent form tells an interesting story. Back in its last six races, Yanka Blue finished second twice in a row, which would have had everyone around the yard quietly excited. Since then, though, it has gone 6th, 9th, 6th, and most recently 6th again — a slide that suggests whatever clicked in those two near-misses hasn't quite stuck. The horse raced just yesterday, so it is very much in active campaign, and Barry John Murphy's team will be hoping the penny drops sooner rather than later.
Murphy trains out of Caerfyrddin in Carmarthenshire, a small yard that has sent out just one winner so far this season. That context matters — this isn't a powerhouse operation churning out winners week after week, so every run counts and every placing is meaningful. Yanka Blue typically competes at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle of the British racing ladder, and has gone winless in all five races at that grade. Class 4 is competitive enough that you need to be at your best to win, and Yanka Blue has yet to find that best on the right day.
Whether the two second-place finishes hint at a horse that can win at this level or simply one that runs its race without quite getting there is the question worth watching. One win from the right race, on the right day, could change the whole picture. For now, Yanka Blue remains firmly in the "nearly" column — but yesterday's run means the team clearly hasn't given up on finding that breakthrough.
