Written In My Soul

The recent form makes for difficult reading. Looking back over the last six races, the best finishing position recorded is fifth, with a sixth and a seventh also in there — and three runs where it failed to finish in the places at all. That is a horse that is consistently making up the numbers rather than troubling the winner. A win rate of zero from nine races is a blunt statistic, but the placed finish at least shows there is some ability lurking, even if turning it into a victory has proved elusive.

Trainer E D Delany operates out of Laytown in County Meath, a yard that has sent out five winners already this season, so there is clearly some form in the stable. Written In My Soul has not been part of that story yet, but the fact that it raced as recently as yesterday suggests the team has not given up on it. Whether this horse can finally get off the mark is the question — but nine races in, it remains firmly one for the optimists.
