Wise Move

The partnership with jockey Jonathon Bewley has been the most familiar combination, the pair lining up together in 11 of those 14 races without managing to get their heads in front. That kind of loyalty between horse and rider speaks to the yard's belief that the right day is still out there — but 11 attempts with nothing to show for it is a tough run by any measure.

Wise Move typically competes at Class 4, which sits in the mid-range of British racing — not the very top level, but no walkover either. Nine races at that level and still no win suggests the horse is finding the competition just strong enough to keep it honest. The recent form figures — a second place a handful of runs back and a fourth more recently — hint that Wise Move can occasionally put a decent race together, but the consistency simply hasn't been there. George Bewley's yard has sent out seven winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse to win. Wise Move, so far, just hasn't been one of them. Raced as recently as yesterday, the horse is clearly still active and still being given chances — and sometimes that persistence is all a horse needs.
