Wild Goose

That one win came at Ludlow in December 2025, and it remains the defining moment of Wild Goose's career so far. Ludlow is a sharp, undulating track that suits horses who are nimble and switched on rather than pure galloping machines, and Wild Goose clearly took to it. The victory came over a distance between one mile six furlongs and two miles — the range where this horse has looked most comfortable — winning 1 from 4 races at those trips, a 25% win rate that stands well above the overall career figure of 1 in every 10.

The partnership with Tom Bellamy is worth watching. Bellamy has been on board for five of Wild Goose's ten races and has the only win to show for it — but that still means they have won 1 in every 5 races together, which is double the horse's overall average. That kind of chemistry between horse and jockey is not always easy to explain, but it tends to be worth paying attention to when they line up together.

What is slightly puzzling is the record at Class 4 level — the grade Wild Goose competes at most often — where the horse has managed no wins from four attempts. The December win came at a different level, which raises the question of whether the class has sometimes been a step too far, or whether Wild Goose simply needs everything to fall right. The recent form is a mixed picture too: a win five months ago, a placed effort since, but also some disappointing finishes in behind.

Trained by Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls out of Cheltenham, Wild Goose is part of a yard that has been in good form this season with 31 winners. Wild Goose raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in the middle of an active campaign. Whether it can rediscover the spark of that Ludlow win is the question its trainer will be asking.
