Wield

Trained by Joseph Parr out of Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing — Wield is part of a yard that has sent out six winners this season and clearly knows how to get a horse ready to run. Newmarket yards tend to have access to some of the best gallops and facilities in the country, which matters for a young horse still learning its trade. The fact that Parr has been placing Wield consistently in races where it can be competitive, rather than throwing it in at the deep end, suggests there is a plan here and patience to go with it.

With its most recent race just yesterday, Wield is as active as it gets. The question now is whether that second place last time out can be converted into a win. Plenty of horses take a handful of races to break their duck, and a horse that is finishing in the places is at least proving it belongs on a racecourse. If the trajectory of the last two runs continues, the first win might not be far away.
