What makes this even more striking is where those wins come from. At Class 6 level — the bread-and-butter races most horses spend their careers in — Wicksey has a perfect record: three wins from three races. That is not a fluke. When normal ground conditions are underfoot, the horse wins roughly three times out of every four races, a seventy-five percent win rate that hints at something genuine. Newcastle is Wicksey's happy place: two wins from three races at that track. The horse was broken in under saddle here, winning its first race on February 4th, 2026, and has returned to dominate it.

The partnership with jockey Andrew Mullen is working beautifully, with the pair combining for three wins from six races together. Trainer Ben Haslam, based at Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire, runs a yard that has already sent out thirty-five winners this season, so this is not an operation flying blind. Wicksey may not have burned up the higher levels yet, but everything about this run — the consistency, the course form, the ground preferences — suggests a horse that knows exactly what it is doing and does it very well indeed. At three years old, there is every reason to think the best may still be ahead.
