His finest hour came at Perth in April 2023, when he won a Class 2 race — one of the top races in Britain. Perth is also where he has built something of a reputation as a local terror: 2 wins from just 4 visits, a record that speaks to a horse who genuinely thrives there rather than just turning up. His trainer, L J Morgan, based in Leicestershire, spotted early on that Whistleinthedark was a much better horse over fences than hurdles — and the record bears that out. The Morgan yard has sent out 14 winners already this season, so this is a team that knows what it's doing.

His most recent win came at Carlisle in November 2025, where he dug out a result at Class 3 level — and there is every sign he still has something left to give. His last six runs show a mix of quiet efforts and that Carlisle win sandwiched in the middle, which is fairly typical of a veteran who picks his moments. He raced just yesterday, so the team clearly keeps him busy and active.

Jockey Harry Reed has partnered him six times and won once together — a 17% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 6 rides — which is modest, but the horse has a habit of demanding more than expected even when things look straightforward. Jockey Brendan Powell recalled a day at Plumpton where he was certain of an easy win turning for home, only for Whistleinthedark to make him earn it at the last. That willingness to dig deep, combined with a career earning seven wins across some genuinely competitive races, is what keeps a horse like this in training at 11. Some horses get easier with age. This one just gets more interesting.
