Whispering Hopes

The recent form makes for interesting reading. A run of 3-8-14-6-–-3 shows a horse that has been up and down — that 14th place and the blank result suggest some difficult days, but bookending the sequence with two third-place finishes shows it can still produce when conditions suit. Racing just one day ago, Whispering Hopes is as active as they come, and a yard that keeps running a horse this regularly clearly believes there's a race to be won somewhere.

The honest truth is that zero wins from twenty races at the age of six is a significant hill to climb. Most horses that are going to win have done so well before this point. But four places — finishing in the top few — across a twenty-race career means the talent is there in some form. The question is whether the right opportunity has simply not arrived yet, or whether that breakthrough moment is always going to be just out of reach. For now, Whispering Hopes remains one of racing's hopeful nearly-horses, and with racing activity this recent, the answer won't be long in coming.
