Weveallbeencaught

The standout moment came on New Year's Day 2023 at Cheltenham, where Weveallbeencaught won a Class 2 race — one of the better races in Britain. Getting the better of a field at Cheltenham, on one of the most demanding tracks in the country, is the kind of thing a horse carries with it for the rest of its career. The first win had arrived earlier, at Newbury in March 2022, and a third followed at Doncaster in January 2025 — meaning this horse has kept finding ways to win across three different tracks and several years of racing.

The challenge now is that Weveallbeencaught has been competing mostly at Class 1 level — the very top tier of British racing — and has not managed to win any of those 8 attempts at that grade. That is not unusual; Class 1 fields are brutally competitive, and simply getting placed in them is an achievement many horses never manage. But it does mean the wins have dried up. The last six races have produced nothing better than a second place, and the most recent run — just yesterday — ended in a seventh. That is a horse that is racing regularly and competing, but not finding the winning thread at the moment.

Sam Twiston-Davies, one of jump racing's most recognisable jockeys, has partnered this horse in 10 of those races and won once together. The McNamara yard is having a productive season with 22 winners, so the team around this horse is clearly in good form. At nine years old, Weveallbeencaught is an experienced campaigner who has already had its Cheltenham moment. Whether another one is coming is the question.
