The recent form tells the story. Weleyff was beaten three weeks ago at Doncaster on 1 August but before that had managed to win at the same track, showing it has already worked out how to get the job done when it matters. Before that came a place, and before that a win at Ayr back on 13 July. So in the last month, Weleyff has won twice and been placed twice — that kind of form, even for a young horse, suggests the yard has something to work with.

Weleyff is trained by Edward Bethell at Middleham in North Yorkshire, a yard that has already sent out 61 winners this season. That's a serious operation, and Bethell clearly knows what he is doing with young horses. The fact that Weleyff raced just yesterday and is still actively campaigned means the trainer is keeping it sharp and racing it regularly — a sign of confidence. For a two-year-old with this kind of early promise, there is plenty of time for Weleyff to develop, but the initial signs are encouraging.
