His first race went well, and then on 5 September 2025 he went to Ascot and won a Class 2 race — one of the top races in Britain — in a manner that turned heads. Jockey Oisin Murphy, riding for a yard he described as "flying at the moment," noted that the ground was harder work than it looked on television, energy-sapping stuff that suited a horse with a bit of engine. Watcha Snoop had the engine. Murphy came away believing the horse would get seven furlongs — in other words, he thought there was more to come over a slightly longer trip.
The season since hasn't gone smoothly. His last four races have produced finishes of 8th, 10th, 12th, and 10th — a sharp drop from the heights of Ascot. Part of the explanation lies at the start line. Before the Mill Reef, one of the most prestigious races of the juvenile season, he virtually bolted to post — running loose before the race even began, burning energy and fraying nerves. Palmer admits he's "always suggested he might have a kink in him," and as a result the team has had him gelded, a surgical procedure that tends to settle horses with an excess of nervous energy. It's a significant call, but one that suggests the yard believes there's a real talent worth unlocking.
With 1 win from 6 races so far, Watcha Snoop is far from a proven commodity. But a Class 2 winner at Ascot at three years old, trained by a man who has sent out 66 winners this season, is not a horse to dismiss. Palmer has already flagged a new conditions race at Ascot on Champions Day as a potential target — meaning the plan is to go back to the track where it all clicked. If the gelding operation has done its job and straightened out that kink, Watcha Snoop could be a very different proposition next time the gates open.
